If you're unable to unplug the HDD use the third edit option and delete the partitions on the SSD but not the HDD, than create the necessary partitions on the SSD and install onto that. If the HDD is unplugged just use the nuke option as it's the fastest and least room for human error. If you have an opportunity to use another drive as an intermediary you can throw it's data onto the intermediary and format the drive to an ext4 Linux partition but it isn't necessary.ĭuring Mint install you get 3 options nuke windows and install Mint, keep windows and install mint alongside it (you'll have to make sure there's unallocated space first) than the third option allows you to edit partitions. The HDD is likely formatted in NTFS (windows style partition) while not great is fine as Linux can still read and write to it (if I remember correctly it is a little bit slower and it blocks more space on the drive than others. If you do that the HDD will not be touched during install and will operate just fine when put back in. Unplug the hard drive during install than plug it back in after.
